Our year
started out with a bang when we attended the Winter Classic game in Buffalo,
New York at Ralph Wilson Stadium where we watched the Pittsburgh Penguins
defeat the Buffalo Sabres in an overtime shoot out!
We headed to Erie on December 31st and checked into our
hotel room in Harborcreek, PA then headed over to visit my Mom in Lawrence Park
for dinner and the evening. We woke up bright and early on New Years Day
and headed to Buffalo. We arrived at the stadium around 9:00 or 9:30 and
started layering on clothes because of the weather. Once my son and his
crew arrived we tailgated with them for a great time of banter between Penguins
and Sabres fans, some games of Cornhole (bean bag toss) using our Pittsburgh
Steelers game. There were Sabres/Bills fans that came up and played the
game with us. People had fires going, hockey games going, and anything
you can think of. It was a blast.
We
headed on into the game which was an incredible experience! It wasn’t so
cold that it was unbearable, it snowed almost the whole time, and Sidney Crosby
who is the league’s biggest star scores the winning goal in a shoot out.
No one could have scripted the day better if they tried!
Buffalo did a superb job in hosting the game and it was a day we will never forget!
Sure it took us FOREVER to get out of the
lot and sure I-90 was somewhat treacherous most of the way through
New York but it was HORRENDOUS once we hit the Pennsylvania line and it was
quite a scary drive to the hotel, but still the whole experience was awesome.
